Honoring Mary as the Mother of God on Jan. 1

Begin the New Year with Mass for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

The Church closes out the Christmas octave—the eight days following the birth of Christ—with a day honoring Mary as the Mother of God on Jan. 1. This solemnity is a holy day of obligation.

Join us for Mass at St. Robert! Masses will be celebrated on:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Jan. 1 at 10:00 a.m.

Reflect
“With his Mother’s flesh God clothed himself, / Since from Virginity he was made man.” — Prudentius, Hymn of the Divinity of Christ, 435-436

Pope Leo XIV’s World Day of Peace 2026 Message
Jan. 1 is also the World Day of Peace. Every year on Jan. 1, the Holy Father marks the World Day of Peace with a special message inviting all people to reflect on the important work of building peace, so needed in our world today. Read the pope’s message for the 59th World Day of Peace on the Vatican website.

Read more about the Mother of God today on the USCCB website.

Wishing you and your loved ones a peace-filled and happy start to the New Year!
