Remembering the Faithful Departed

For Catholics, November is the month of the Holy Souls in Purgatory. The Catechism teaches: “All who die in God’s grace and friendship but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death, they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.” (CCC 1030)

Those suffering but hopeful souls whom our prayers assist will someday be in heaven and will pray for us as we journey. And so, November is an ideal time to help the Holy Souls through prayer and acts of love and charity.

You will notice vigil candles with a name tag set up in front of the Altar during the month of November. These candles are to honor our beloved parishioners who have entered into Eternal Life this past year. Please pray for the repose of their souls.

Join us in celebrating the Solemnity of All Saints on Friday, November 1. We will offer two Masses that day: one at 9:00 a.m. and one at 7:00 p.m. All Saints Day is a holyday of obligation, when Catholics are expected to attend Mass and avoid unnecessary work and activities that would hinder the worship of God.

First Saturday Mass will be celebrated on November 2 (the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed) at 9:00 a.m. Please join us!

MASS FOR GOD’S CHILDREN

The diocesan Respect Life Office invites anyone who has experienced the loss of a child before Baptism to the Mass for God’s Children on Monday, November 4, 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. Parents, Grandparents, siblings, relatives, and friends are all invited to attend. A memorial rose with a naming card will be provided for families who have lost a child or children. If you would like to reserve a memorial rose, contact Paloma Olvera at (616) 288-0908 OR polvera@grdiocese.org.

STEPHEN MINISTRY

Are you going through a difficult time – perhaps job loss, illness diagnosis, or grieving the loss of a loved one? God never intended for us to go through these experiences alone. A Stephen Minister can help!

Stephen Ministers are members of our parish who have received 50 hours of training to listen, care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support on a weekly basis to people going through a crisis or a difficult time. To learn how you can receive a Stephen Minister’s confidential care, contact Fr. Logan Weber at (616) 676-9111 ext 131 or LWeber@StRobertChurch.org.

SUPPORT FAMILIES IN NEED!

If you would like to provide a family in need with a Thanksgiving Feast, please consider St. Robert’s Adopt-A-Family Program! It requires NO cooking, just purchasing and delivering food a few days before the holiday to a family in the Grand Rapids area.

To volunteer or for more information, please contact Mary Koval at mbjakoval@att.net or text/call at (616) 490-2394.

There is an urgent need at HELP, the local Catholic pregnancy center, for girls clothing in sizes 3 month through 4 toddler. There are empty storage bins for sizes 3 month, 12 month, and 24 month in the coat room of the church. Thank you, in advanced, for your generosity in supporting local moms and babies in need!

We have a wonderful ministry here at St. Roberts, which helps families of a deceased loved one gather in community and fellowship. The Funeral Luncheon Ministry serves lunch in Newminster Hall after a funeral.

If you are someone who likes to bake, prepare a salad or veggie tray or even cook, the only thing you need to do is drop off your item to be donated, and you’re done! We use a sign up genius link to sign up for your dish to share. If you’re someone who would like to be contacted for setting the tables or actually working the luncheon (pouring coffee, water, cleaning up afterwards) there is a need here as well, and we use the sign up genius for this too. Please consider volunteering for this important ministry. Contact Molly Reppuhn in the the parish office at mollyr@strobertchurch.org or call
(616) 676-9111.
