What makes a nation flourish? 8th through 12 graders, your ideas could win $100!

St. Robert’s Knights of Columbus Council is sponsoring an essay contest for students in grades 8-12. This contest encourages today’s youth to be more connected to their community and their faith.

Students are asked express, in 500-750 words, what the following quote from former U.S. President John F. Kennedy means and its importance to the flourishing of a nation:

“The rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.”

Contest Overview:

Topic: Explain what the quote from former U.S. President and Knights of Columbus member John F. Kennedy’s 1961 Inaugural Address means and its importance for the flourishing of a nation.

Eligible Participants: Students in grades 8 through 12 (public, private, parochial, or homeschools).

Length: 500 to 750 words.

Judging Criteria: Judged on grammar, style, and how clearly the theme is presented with creativity and imagination.

Submission Deadline: Oct. 23, please register first (see below)

First Prize: $100

Parents and teachers, if your student would like to submit an entry, please contact St. Robert parishioner and Knights member George Christopher at kofc8117@gmail.com for registration.

VOLUNTEER!

Share the joy of “I do!”

There’s something truly special about a wedding day. It’s a joyful celebration of love, family, and faith—and, most importantly, the beginning of a couple’s lifelong journey together in the sacrament of matrimony.

The Wedding Coordination Team at St. Robert has the privilege of

helping brides and grooms experience the wedding day they’ve been dreaming about. We’re looking to add three or four more people to our team. By serving in this ministry, you’ll help create a warm, welcoming atmosphere while ensuring that the rehearsal and wedding day run smoothly.

To volunteer, or if you have questions, contact Kate, (616) 915-4678 or soavekate@gmail.com, or Kelly at (616) 821-2418 or kelglass13@gmail.com.

Looking for additional ways to get involved?

  • Share your unique God-given talents! Click here to explore our Parish Ministry Guide online and find a ministry to get involved in/volunteer with! Discerning your gifts and where to serve? Lynn Mossner, our parish director of stewardship and operations, can offer support and guidance. Contact her for a conversation at (616) 676-9111, ext. 124, or email LMossner@strobertchurch.org.
