Beyond Black Friday

Make a life-giving gift to the SRN Samaritan Fund this Giving Tuesday

Created as a counterbalance to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday directs our focus to from spending to giving back through donations of time, material goods or financial gifts.

For Giving Tuesday 2025, we’re inviting St. Robert parishioners and the broader community to give to our parish’s newly-established Samaritan Fund. The Samaritan Fund helps our parish extend Christ’s compassion to those in need in our parish and community. We’ve set a lofty goal this year to raise $20,000 for this fund! With your contribution and participation in several Challenge Grants sponsored by The Catholic Foundation of West Michigan on Dec. 2nd, we hope to get there!

Ways to Give

Please consider a Giving Tuesday donation to the SRN Samaritan Fund. Donate anytime now through 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 2. Credit card fees are covered for all donations made through the SRN-Diocese of Grand Rapids giving page linked below which means 100% of your gift goes to the Samaritan Fund. Cash or checks (made payable to St. Robert of Newminster with “Giving Tuesday” in the memo line) can be dropped off at the parish office between now and Dec. 2 during regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (except Nov. 27 and 28 when the office will be closed for Thanksgiving).

Help for a pregnant woman in need: “Carrie’s” story

We receive a call to the parish around 6:00 p.m. from “Carrie.” She was in tears and not sure what to do. She recently found out that she was pregnant and the father of the baby told her if she didn’t have an abortion, he would leave her. Worried about losing her primary support person, she scheduled an abortion.

“I have one scheduled tomorrow, but I have a pit in my stomach. I made a deal that if I called the church and no one answered, it was a sign to do it. I waited until the evening because I thought for sure no one would answer.” She laughs a little and continues, “But of course, I know in my heart what I need to do, and you answered. I just don’t know how I will ever be able to raise this baby on my own.”

Carrie canceled her abortion appointment and, over time, we connected her with resources in the community. With money from the Samaritan Fund, we were able to get her baby items she needed. She found a better job and moved back in with her mom who was thrilled to help. Carrie wrote to us with this message, “Thank you for answering the phone that night. Because of the kindness of your church, I now feel confident in giving birth to my baby boy. I can’t wait to see him, and hope one day I can bring him in for you to meet.”

Our parish’s Samaritan Fund helps to promote human life and dignity and gives a voice to the voiceless. We empower women to feel confident about their life circumstances, and offer them the help they need to be successful. Will you join us in ensuring works of caring and compassion like this can continue? Make your gift today at the link below:
