Pray for an end to abortion

Sign up for your Oct. 8 vigil hour after Masses this weekend

40 Days for Life is 40-day campaign typically held in the spring and fall that aims to end abortion locally through prayer and fasting, community outreach, and a peaceful all-day vigil in front of abortion businesses.

40 Days for Life Grand Rapids‘ fall campaign began Sept. 23 and goes through Nov. 1. St. Robert’s day to pray is Thursday, Oct. 8. Join the members of our Respect Life MInistry and other St. Robert parishioners to pray in front of Planned Parenthood on Cherry St. in Grand Rapids on Oct. 8 between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Sign up for your Oct. 8 vigil hour in the narthex after any Mass this weekend.

Last year, we had 100% coverage every hour with at least two people praying. Won’t you join us this year?

About Respect Life Month

In October, the Catholic Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday of October is designated as Respect Life Sunday.

  • Read Bishop Walkowiak’s Respect Life letter to parishioners in our Oct. 4 bulletin, or find it on the Diocese of Grand Rapids website.
  • For pastoral care and support, as well as resources and activities to pray for and promote a culture of life throughout October, visit the Respect Life Ministry page of our website.

Election resources for Catholics

Midterm elections are Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Please see the “Vote with Faith” insert in this weekend’s bulletin and around the narthex or visit the Diocese of Grand Rapids website to learn about faithful citizenship and how to approach voting with the Catholic faith.

Forming Consciences for FaithfulCitizenship is the teaching document of the U.S. Catholic bishops on the political responsibility of Catholics. The statement helps Catholics to form their consciences, to learn about Catholic social teaching on important issues, to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue, and to shape political choices in light of Catholic teaching.

For additional information and links to voter resources and prayers visit the Michigan Catholic Conference and the U.S. Bishops websites, as well as the Diocese of Grand Rapids website.

Visit the Michigan Voter Information Center website to check your registration, find your polling place, view a sample ballot, apply for an absentee ballot, and more.

FOR THE WHOLE PARISH

SRN Community Dinners return Oct. 7

Food! Faith! Fellowship!

  • Beginning Oct. 7, 6:00-7:00 p.m., and most Wednesdays through spring 2027, Community Dinners are back! Join us weekly in Newminster Hall.
  • Rotating menu of family favorites including tacos, spaghetti, hotdogs and hamburgers, stir fry and more. All are welcome!

Volunteer!

We couldn’t be more grateful for those that make these gatherings possible. It truly takes a team to prep, serve, and clean up each week.

We’re looking for volunteers to help prep, serve and clean up — whether that’s chopping vegetables, greeting guests, or helping with dishes — and to enjoy the warm fellowship that makes these dinners such a gift to our parish family. Sign up one Wednesday a month.

To volunteer, contact Hans Whitmer at HWhitmer@strobertchurch.org, or click here to view openings and sign up.

SCHOOL NEWS

Happy feast of the Archangels!

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, our St. Robert middle school students led special archangel prayers during our morning pledge and prayer service.

As part of our Archangel House

Competition, students showed incredible pride wearing their House colors and had a blast decorating (and eating!) special angel food cupcakes in their

house colors. Thank you to everyone who made this day of faith, fun, and community so memorable!

St. Robert students, families collect change for a good cause in October

The Baby Bottle Change Drive to benefit HELP Pregnancy Aid is entering its fourth year! During Respect Life Month, SRCS students collect spare change for approximately two weeks, this year between Oct. 5-16. St. Robert’s Respect Life Committee then counts the donations and presents the proceeds to HELP. The students

know that the funds they collect will go toward helping moms, dads and children served by HELP. Part of the goal of this effort is to help the students understand and appreciate the dignity of human life—from conception to natural death.
