Help for struggling families

Named for the well-known parable of the Good Samaritan in the Gospel of Luke, St. Robert’s Samaritan Fund exists to extend Christ’s compassion to those facing real and often heartbreaking struggles – right here in our community. The parable of the Good Samaritan speaks especially of works of mercy, particularly toward the poor. Individuals like Keith, a man left nearly destitute by the circumstances of life whose only wish was, when he died, that he did not want to be cremated. Read his story below:

When families in need contact our parish for help, we want to be able to respond. The Samaritan Fund allows us to do so.

We received a call from a family who had fallen behind on their bills. They both had lower paying jobs, and with the state of our economy and the increasing costs of groceries, rent and other necessities, they had fallen behind. They were on the verge of losing their home. Compounding the situation was the need to pay for unexpected car maintenance and an emergency room visit.

They had taken on odd jobs to try to help, but they just needed a one time “boost” to get their heads above water. We connected them up with several resources in the community including the food pantries supported by our parish – Northwest Food Pantry and The Other Way Ministries – and were able to help them pay a couple of their bills. This ensured they would not lose their home and become homeless with their three small children. We also got them involved with the Employment and Resource Network (EaRN) program at the parish to help them look for better-paying employment opportunities.

Our parish’s Samaritan Fund helps struggling families regain their footing. Won’t you join us in ensuring works of mercy like this can continue? Please make your gift at the link below:
