Jesus appointed some to lead his Church. In doing so, again and again he reminded them that if they were to be great in the Kingdom they must be servants of all. All Christian leadership must be servant leadership. First we are called to be servants of the Lord, attentive to the voice of God’s Holy Spirit. Then we are called to be servants of our brothers and sisters.
In a parish, the pastor is designated by the bishop to be the shepherd leader of the parish community. He is assisted by others who work in pastoral ministry. Their training and dedication allows them to guide and serve the parish community in areas spiritual, educational and temporal.
In addition, the Church asks that each parish have councils and committees consisting of parish members who offer guidance to the pastor and inspiration to the parish community.
The Pastoral Council is a group of parishioners who come together to listen to the movement of the Spirit, to be filled with a loving concern for the needs of the parish, and to offer their prayerful insights and reflections. The Pastoral Council speaks in behalf of the entire parish; it is a representative of the broad range of parishioners. They provide vision, leadership, and communication.
The Finance Council is a consultative body to the pastor and assists him in carrying out the administrative functions of the parish. They help create and manage the budget of the parish, providing administrative and accounting expertise to ensure that church facilities are maintained so that we are able to worship for many years to come. In addition, they work to maximize the utilization of our finite financial resources.
The Stewardship Committee assists these two Councils by facilitating the supply of willing “supervisors” for the different “departments”, or in this case, the activities or ministries identified in this directory. By assisting various committees and ministries, the Stewardship Committee hopes to improve the means by which you become an active steward in your parish.
Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council is one of the advisory bodies to the pastor of St. Robert of Newminster Parish. The Parish Pastoral Council is a body of parishioners called together by the pastor, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to provide guidance, opinion and counsel to the pastor regarding the needs, wants and desires of the parish community. They are to provide the pastor with their collective insight as to where the parish has been, where it is, and where it should be going. Their charter is one of “vision, leadership and communication.”
